The visor moves upward but can also be opened towards each side thanks to the removable bolts in the hinges. Brass loops attached on the rim can hold an avantail. Thus Klappvisier is not attached with hinges but a bolt on the forehead. In combination with an avantail the Klappvisier could be hung loose when it wasn`t needed. The original can be found in the Valeria Museum, Sitten (Swizerland)) Handbeaten out of 2mm (14 gauge) steel, then welded and polished. It has an adjustable, spider style, leather liner and chinstrap.
